The Art of Mounting Plants

  • Golden Belt Arts - Studio 121 807 East Main Street Durham, NC, 27701 United States (map)

Join living art designer, Aisha Sanders of Urbane Terrain as she demonstrates how to mount tillandsia (air plants).  Using natural cork bark, driftwood, and other natural woods, Aisha will walk workshop participants through a few simple techniques that transform beautiful tillandsia into breathtaking living art displays.  The mounting technique closely resembles the natural habitat for tillandsia but do require special care indoors.  Aisha's tips will ensure that you and your plants are lively and stress free.

Each workshop participant will select desired materials and create one mounted display with a specialty tillandsia variety (other everyday varieties will also be available and included in workshop fee).  Topics covered include plant specifics, specialty food, design techniques, and caring for your mounted living art displays - plenty of tips and inspiration.  The $35 workshop fee includes: wood for your mounted specimen, tillandsia, spray bottle, and a care sheet. I guarantee your works of art will inspire many conversations.

Participants may also purchase additional items on location to create additional living art displays at home. Time for refreshments and inspiration (sample terrariums, photos, books to peruse) followed by hands on class. Please contact Aisha at with any questions.

Be ready to get creative and have some fun!
